Bringing Water to Cambodia

November 16, 2011

Each year during the holiday season at Up Country, employees collect money for donation to a non-profit organization. Up Country generously matches the total raised, and this year the funds were sent to Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC). JWOC was started in 2005 to help develop educational and economic opportunities in the countries of Southeast Asia. Through scholarships, micro loans and many village centered projects, they consistently achieve their motto: See a Problem, Solve a Problem.

Up Country's donation was used to drill a well in Branet Village, a very small village in the Siem Reap Province of Cambodia. There are 25 people in this village who formerly depended on rain water for all their needs. This well will make a huge difference int he daily lives of these villagers, who had to trek long distances for clean water. We were thrilled to get photos of the well and some of the people who use it on a daily basis. To find out more about Journeys Within Our Community go to http://www.journeyswithinourcommunity.org/.
